Knocklyon

The Parish was constituted on the 1st October 1974 and placed under the patronage of St. Colmcille. Fr. Patrick Staunton, O.Carm., was appointed Parish Priest and Fr. Seán Dunne, O.Carm., Curate. Since then the Parish has grown rapidly to be one of the biggest in country.

The Parish has four schools:

St. Colmcille’s Junior Primary School

St. Colmcille’s Senior Primary School (These two make up the largest Primary School in Ireland)

St. Colmcille’s Community School

Gaelscoil Chnoc Liamhna

The Iona Centre

These provide facilities for meetings and courses.

 

Mass Times

Monday-Saturday: 10.00am & 7.00pm

Sunday: 9.00, 10.00, 11.00am, 12.30pm & 7.00pm.

 

Confessions

Penitential Service at the start of 10.00am Mass on the First Friday of each month.

Saturdays after the 10.00am Mass (until 11.00am) and from 6.45pm.

Anytime on request.

 

Baptism

Twice monthly on Saturdays at 12.00 noon.

The Baptism Preparation Team prepares families for the Sacrament of Baptism.

 

Funeral Team

Assists in the celebration of the Funeral Rites.

 

Lectio Divina Group

Facilitates weekly reflections on the New Testament and Readings for the Sundays of the year.

 

Liturgy & Spirituality

Promotes meaningful, participative and varied celebration of Masses, Sacraments, prayer and worship.

 

Church Shop

Daily after 10.00am Mass and on Sundays from 10.30am – 1.30pm.

 

Choirs

11.00 o’clock choir: 11.00am Mass every Sunday. Practice Wednesdays at 8.00pm.

The Gospel Singers: 12.30pm Mass every second Sunday. Practice weekly.

Knocklyon Youth Gospel: 7.00pm Mass on the last Sunday of the month.

Taizé: 7.00pm Mass on the first Sunday of the month.

 

Children

Altar Servers: For all church ceremonies.

 

Children’s Liturgy Group

10.00am Sunday: Children’s Mass with the Gospel in music and drama.

Children’s Choir: 10.00am Mass – practice weekly and is open to children who have received their First Holy Communion.

 

Parish Pastoral Forum

Acts in a consultative capacity alongside the Parish Team. It comprises the Carmelite team plus willing parishioners.

 

Contacts & Groups

St. Vincent de Paul – working discreetly in the community.

Cleaning Groups – Mondays and Fridays.

Flower Arranging Team – Flower arrangements in the church.

Collectors – Gather the baskets at Sunday Masses.

Ministers of the Eucharist – Education and training provided.

Ministers of the Word (Readers) – Education and training provided.

Liturgy and Spirituality Group – Planning the celebration of Masses, Sacraments, prayer and worship.

Bethany Group – newly formed; provides bereavement support.

Rainbows Support group for children in a bereavement/separation situation. Education and training provided.

Contact Group – maintains contact with the residents of the parish, visiting houses and meeting parishioners.

Envelope Collection Group – collect on a weekly basis for the Parish Maintenance and development Fund.

Social Events Group – organises social events: Parish Week, Christmas Fair, etc.

Knocklyon News – reports and records issues and activities within the parish.

Parish Website – welcomes all offers of help – articles, photos, technical savvy.
