The
Gort Muire Carmelite Library
(Reconstituted
2006)
The Carmelite
Library contains 15,000 volumes dating from t he early 1500s to the present
day and has three major collections: the Carmelite Collection, the Mariology
Collection and the Spirituality Collection. The library is intended to be a
valuable resource for those engaged in advanced research in the areas of
Carmelite, Marian and Spirituality studies.
The
Library Collections
The Carmelite
Collection
An extensive,
multilingual collection of works by Carmelite authors and about the
Carmelite Order.
The Mariology
Collection
A varied collection
of scholarly works on Mary, along with popular writing and a range of
pamphlets.
The Spirituality
Collection
A collection
dealing with mysticism and general spirituality including many biographies,
collected works and studies of the great figures of Christian spirituality,
along with a small collection covering the spirituality of other religions.
The Periodicals
Collection
A valuable
collection of periodicals, old and new, covering areas of theology,
spirituality and culture.
The Irish
Collection
A collection of
interesting materials gathered by the late Fr Peter O’Dwyer, O.Carm.
Library Resources

The Carmelite Collection includes the works of Saints Teresa of Avila, John
of the Cross, Thérèse of Lisieux, Edith Stein, Blessed Titus Brandsma and
many biographical and critical works.

A substantial collection of Carmelite periodicals including “Carmel in the
World,” “Carmelus” and “The Sword.”
·
A variety of Carmelite Writings in many fields.
·
Works on the history of the Carmelite Family, in particularly their history
in Ireland and the influence of the Irish Carmelites around the world.

Specialized collections of the Institutum Carmelitanum.
·
An extensive collection of reference material covering general theology and
spirituality.
Gort Muire Carmelite Library Online Catalogue
The online
catalogue is as yet incomplete. However, many of the records already
catalogued can be searched. Please be advised that the catalogue contains
books and other media from 1800 on. For earlier items, please contact the
library directly to enquire.

Location
The Carmelite
Library is located in the Gort Muire Centre near Dundrum, very close to the
M50 Ballinteer Junction (Exit 13). Coming off the motorway follow directions
to the Dundrum Town Centre as far as the Wyckham Point roundabout – Gort Muire is
up the road to the right.
It is a short walk
from the Luas Green Line stop at Balally/Dundrum Town Centre and is served
by the 48A and 75 bus routes. Bus routes 14, 14A, 17, 44, 44B, 44C, 116 and
117 also stop within walking distance. From the Dundrum Town Centre follow
directions towards the M50 as far as the Wyckham Point roundabout – Gort Muire is
up the road to the left.
Visiting the Library
We welcome to the
library those who wish to study the Carmelite Tradition but request an
appropriate letter of introduction stating your area of interest so that we
can better facilitate your visit. Visits are also strictly by appointment.
